FAQ's
Why breastfeed at all, isn't formula just as good?
Drug companies spend millions every year trying to emulate the perfect food that is breast milk. But there is one major difference: formula milk doesn't (and cannot) contain the protective Immunoglobulin's of breast milk. Immunoglobulin's which provide protection against many childhood illness that can impact on one's health into adulthood. For the full benefits of breastfeeding click here
Why attend a workshop before the birth when I am only going to feed after the birth.
Like any new journey preparation is key. If you know what to expect and how to deal with the problems you may encounter, you are more likely to breastfeed with less pain and anxiety - and for longer. Becoming a parent for the first time is overwhelming and knowing how to feed your baby is of the highest importance for you and your baby's health and well-being. A happy baby makes a happy home. The workshops cover all of these aspects and help you to prepare and our postnatal breastfeeding doulas can guide you through the first few days.
What is a Doula?
Postpartum doulas are hired to support the woman after birth, usually in the family's home. They are skilled in offering families
evidence-based information and support on breastfeeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing,
mother-baby bonding, and coping skills for new parents.

Why do I need to express my milk?
In the first few weeks until your milk is established you don't need to express at all, unless you are separated from your baby, but if you are returning to work the workshops will guide you on when and how to express. You may need to hand express in the first few days to alleviate discomfort and we also instruct you on hand expressing technique.
I hear so many stories about how to breastfeed but they seem to conflict - who do I listen to?
You listen to yourself and your baby, you will always know what is best and with the evidence-based information we will give you at the workshops and the skills you will learn, you can politely ignore all the well meaning 'advice'.
