Postnatal Support

Breastfeeding Doulas

Research suggests that good counsel and positive encouragement at home not only promotes successful breastfeeding but also prolongs the duration that a mother breast feeds her baby.

Here at MothersMilk we can provide you with evidence based advice, empathetic support and the encouragement you need to continue breastfeeding successfully when you get home.

Often you are discharged from hospital on day 3 just when you need the help most. Your milk is 'coming in', your breasts are engorged and to cap it all you have the 3rd day 'baby blues' which, for a short period makes you question your decision and commitment to breastfeed. It is at this point that you require support the most.

MothersMilk can offer that help by way of our breastfeeding doulas*. They have all previously successfully breastfed their babies and have been trained by Katherine (midwife and lecturer). They are passionate about breastfeeding and have a gentle caring approach and often a shoulder to cry on.

* Postpartum doulas are hired to support the woman after birth, usually in the family's home. They are skilled in offering families evidence-based information and support on breastfeeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing, mother-baby bonding, and coping skills for new parents.
