Breastfeeding Workshop Programme
Hosted by Katherine Brittin (BM,UK)
Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world...when you know how. Pregnant women often ask why they should attend a workshop before the birth, when they are obviously not going to be breastfeeding until after the birth. The simple answer is that the seeds for success are sown in preparation. Have a look at our FAQ for the answers.
The aim of the workshops is not only to provide you with a foundation for successful breastfeeding, but to connect like-minded women who can go on to support each other through the early days of motherhood.
The workshops are suitable for:
- First time mothers in their third trimester.
- Second or even third time moms who are desperate to breastfeed but have not been successful in the past.
- Care-givers (midwives, nurses) who may want to update their knowledge.
Workshop Structure:
- Introductions.
- Understanding your body and the physiological changes of breasts in pregnancy.
- Why? Exploring the benefits of breast feedin.g
- How? Practical hints and tips on successful breast feeding technique.
- What If? Recognising and overcoming common problems.
- Exposing the myths and how to deal with conflicting advice.
- What is the "World Health Organization Baby Friendly Initiative"?
- How to hand express, breast pumps and other breastfeeding aids.
- The role of your partner in breastfeeding and how to feed comfortably and discreetly in public.
- The importance of good postnatal support.
- Open discussion.
Thanks for a fantastic workshop...I would strongly recommend this for all mothers.
